Immersive Clinical Experience Details

Who

All students who are currently enrolled in their second year or higher in a CAATE accredited athletic training program. All students must be US citizens due to the extensive requirements for security clearances.

What

A full immersion into occupational athletic training. Students actively participate in all daily clinic activities including: evaluation, treatment development, patient progression and practice advancement. Unique opportunities to reach the workforce include educational outreach events for employees of the Kennedy Space Center and Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, injury prevention presentations at health and safety meetings, coordinating RehabWorks services with the KSC Occupational Health and the Ergonomics Working Group, and many additional exciting activities that naturally arise due to the unique nature of the work here at KSC.

Where RehabWorks is located about an hour east of Orlando, on Florida’s Space Coast at the Kennedy Space Center near Cape Canaveral/Cocoa Beach… Yes, we live where you vacation!

When

Start and end dates are determined by the scheduling and availability of your Athletic Training Education Program (ATEP). However immersive experiences MUST be a minimum of 6 weeks and maximum of 4 months. Full semester experiences typically begin in January, May, or August, but we adapt to meet the immersive period programming needs for each ATEP.

Why

The RehabWorks Clinical Experience is modeled to provide students with a safe environment to practice as a medical professional. Productive practice development is achieved through real-time patient interaction, evidenced-based practice techniques and didactic instruction. The NASA culture cultivates curiosity to allow for a greater understanding of how things work, and the RehabWorks clinic atmosphere stays true to that NASA culture.

Compensation

Unfortunately, no financial compensation for this clinical experience is available.

Housing & Transportation

The RehabWorks staff will help the accepted students locate a good, safe and local living situation. We want our students to have a wonderful overall experience, including their experiences outside of the clinic on Florida’s Space Coast.

There is no public transportation to and from KSC so each student must provide his or her own transportation. All members in the car must have a badge to get on the base, so please make sure you are able to have transportation available to the on base clinic.
