- Corporate Fitness and Health Promotion Combination
The Kennedy Space Center (KSC) Health Education and Wellness Program (HEWP) offers an internship program designed to provide a valuable learning experience. Students may choose to work entirely in a corporate fitness setting, or may cross between the fitness and health promotion departments. KSC activities and work assignments will be based on the student's specific interests, knowledge and background. A wide variety of opportunities in fitness, wellness and health promotion will be available to the participant in this program.
Activities in which the intern will be involved:
Fitness assessments
Administering KSC FC memberships and blood pressure monitoring
Body composition analysis
Girth measurements
Exercise prescription
Personal counseling and program design
Implementation of exercise programs
Equipment use/instruction
Observation and participation with exercising employees.
Group exercise classes
Instruction of classes, if applicable
Participation in classes offered
Wellness Programs
Observe and participate in wellness-related fairs, lectures, seminars and workshops,
such as, but not limited to:
Stress management
A variety of fitness related topics
Nutrition
Desktop Yoga
Metabolic diseases and exercise
Heart disease
Special Events and Outreach
World Employee Health and Fitness Month - Summer Semester
Annual Walk Run (2 mile, 5K and 10K) – Winter / Spring Semester
Safety and Health Day - Winter/Spring Semester
Local education outreach programs involvement
Extra events and programs available per interns' creativity and initiative
Motivational Programs
Promote and monitor various motivational programs offered at KSC
Help create and plan a new motivational program for KSC employees
Health Education
Create a health and wellness educational article
Participate in monthly Cardiovascular and Diabetes screening program
Research and write a scientific paper on a topic of choice
Participate in various outreach programs around KSC, such as Flu Clinics - Fall Semester
Presentations to Spaceport Employees
Administration
Record-keeping, filing
Data entry
Reception, service desk management
Designation of Candidate
Any junior, senior, or graduate student enrolled in a university exercise, fitness,
health or wellness related course of study may apply. Selection for internship with
the KSC Health Education and Wellness program requires review of the student's application
packet (see application requirements below). If these documents reflect a sincere
academic and personal interest, a personal interview will be requested. Potential
interns should be available for a minimum of ten weeks working 40 hours per week.

Compensation
This program is considered to be a public service to benefit and expand the educational
experiences of students enrolled in physical education, exercise physiology, nutrition,
fitness, or health related disciplines. Students receive credit as part of their
curriculum at their accredited college. Students will encounter tours and educational
experiences that only employees of the Kennedy Space Center can be part of. These
may include:
KSC rocket launches
KSC grounds tours
KSC Visitor Complex visits
Other miscellaneous tours available per season
No financial compensation will be conferred.
